Investment Strategies

Scout Investment Advisors (SIA) has managed money under our current structure or as part of UMB since 1928.  Currently, SIA provides separately managed accounts to institutions, foundations, endowments, public and private pension funds.

The foundation of SIA's overall philosophy is to provide a risk-adjusted investment performance relative to a comparable benchmark and peer group. In pursuit of this objective, the individual product teams focus on quality companies and issues within conservative risk parameters.

Today, SIA offers a variety of investment strategies that when combined provide a well-diversified portfolio.

Fixed Income Strategy

Our fixed income strategy consists of investing in quality issues, primarily focusing on sector, security selection and duration. For this strategy, we invest in U.S. Treasuries, U.S. Agency securities, mortgage-backed and some asset-backed securities and corporate bonds.

Global Equity Strategy

Our global strategy invests in the securities of quality companies from around the globe and across multiple capitalizations. Securities are selected based on their strong fundamentals, growth prospects and prevailing economic and market conditions.

International Equity Strategy

Our international equity strategy involves identifying countries and sectors to pursue and avoid. We seek to invest in companies who are located outside of the United States or whose primary business takes place outside of the United States.

International SMID Equity Strategy

Our international smid equity strategy involves identifying countries and sectors to pursue and avoid. We seek to invest in companies who are located outside of the United States or whose primary business takes place outside of the United States with market capitalization between $500 million and $17 billion.

Large Cap Equity Strategy

Our large cap equity strategy seeks to identify stocks of quality companies which exemplify quality growth or growth at a reasonable price. SIA's domestic research staff screens all publicly traded companies with market capitalizations over $1.5 billion.

Mid Cap Equity Strategy

Our mid cap equity strategy invests in the securities of companies that are expected to benefit from macroeconomic or company-specific factors. SIA seeks to invest in companies that are attractively priced relative to their fundamental factors such as cash flow, financial strength, profitability, potential or actual catalysts that could move the share price, accounting practices, management quality, other risk factors such as litigation, and the estimated fair value of the firm.

Small Cap Core Equity Strategy

Our small cap core strategy invests in the securities of quality companies that also produce high levels of cash flow and earnings relative to their peers. This analysis focuses on price levels of individual issues and the market as a whole.

Small Cap Growth Equity Strategy

Our small cap growth strategy invests in the securities of quality companies that we beleive will benefit from long-term industry, demographic and technological trends that will likely generate superior growth prospects.
